This statement accountability in regards to At The Intersections: Intersectionality and Sexual Violence Conference organized by the SASC Ottawa, that is to be held on June 26th, 2017 and the end Holy Month of Ramadan & Celebration of Eid-al-fitr.  At SASC Ottawa we strive to act in solidarity during the Holy Month of Ramadan with our collective members, staff and larger community.  As an organization committed to anti-oppression and intersectional analysis of experiences. In our best efforts to organize this conference, there have been limitations which include time restrictions of using the funding received to organize this conference & the availability of rental space large enough to accommodate conference attendees/ accessibility needs. That has meant we have to maintain the date of June 26th, 2017. We would like to acknowledge and take accountability that this may have an impact on certain community members being able to attend the conference. As a committee we thought deeply about the impact this may have on individuals that would have otherwise attended, including systemic Islamophobia & privilege of non-Muslims.  During the conference, we will have a dedicated space to honour the celebration of Eid-al-fitr with donations from the Muslim community and Non-Muslims community.
