The YWP is a specialized program within SASC Ottawa that supports young marginalized womyn between the ages of 14-24 who experience intersecting challenges in addition to sexual violence. The YWP believes in the power of young womyn to share their knowledge, support, and advocacy with one another as a means of gaining and re-claiming strength and resiliency. We strongly believe that all young womyn are dynamic and are valuable participants in our communities and recognize that marginalized young womyn face many barriers to accessing support due to criminalization, discrimination, and lack of suitable social services. We seek to provide accessible, flexible services for all young womyn that is free of judgment. All our services are self-referred, free, confidential, and do have a wait time. Some areas of focus may include; healing from abuse, recognizing abuse and its effects, supporting healthy relationships, understanding the effects of family history, exploring positive coping mechanisms, communication and assertiveness.

2020’s Innovative Abilities “Amplifying Voices in Digital Spaces” was an initiative specifically for young womyn survivors of sexual violence who are living with a visible or invisible disability. This digital storytelling project provided the opportunity for members to support one another, learn new skills (thanks to Community Story Strategies) and share their story on their own terms.
Community Workshops: The YWP is available to host workshops in youth focused spaces. Our workshops are oriented around young womyn’s empowerment and skill building. All of our workshops are a combination of information and discussions on issues that affect young womyn. It is often that we also include an art-expressive component in our facilitation. If you would like us to host a workshop on topics as self-care, legal issues, sexual violence or a topic related to your specific organizations needs please contact our YWP Coordinator at 613-868-4340 or 613-725-2160 ext 224 or via e-mail at email@example.com
